Keep Freight on Aussie Trains

Keep Freight on Aussie Trains

The Federal Government plans to deregulate coastal shipping, and let in potentially hundreds of foreign vessels to undercut Australian jobs in the freight transport sector

This could be devastating for the future of intermodal (containerised) rail freight in Australia, with thousands of jobs at risk – including many in regional Australia.

New Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce needs to categorically rule out any changes to coastal shipping that undermine the rail industry, and keep freight on rail.

The new Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Barnaby Joyce, has the power to stop his Government's proposed changes to coastal trading laws which will benefit foreign-flaggedships at the expense of the local intermodal rail sector.

The proposal will allow overseas freight vessels, paying sub-standard wages and conditions, to compete for local freight work against Australian freight services. This will lead to the loss of potentially thousands of jobs in regional areas, undermine the soveriegnty of our freight supply chains, and leave the Inland Rail project as a massive white elephant before its even built.

Tell Barnaby Joyce that jobs in regional Australia matter, and he needs to take action to Keep Freight on Aussie Trains.
